Coast Guard Auxiliary Member Dies in Iraq
Services are pending for a young Army private who has become the first known
Coast Guard Auxiliarist to be killed during the current military operations
in Iraq.

Homeland Security Tests Emergency Response TOPOFF3
April 4, 2005 (Washington, D.C.) As part of TOPOFF 3, the largest
terrorism preparedness exercise in our nation's history, actors in New
Jersey, Connecticut and Washington, D.C. began conducting a planned scenario
of events. Secretary Michael Chertoff announced the participation of 10,000
participants from 27 federal agencies, and more than 200 government as well
as private sector organizations. "This team that's participating in TOPOFF 3
includes everybody from cabinet secretaries, international partners,
governors, mayors, city managers, local fire and police, search and rescue
personnel, public health and public communications officials, and the
private sector."

Interim National Preparedness Goal
April 1, 2005 -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced today
the publication of the Interim National Preparedness Goal (Goal). The
Goal will guide federal departments and agencies, state, territorial, local
and tribal officials, the private sector, non-government organizations and
the public in determining how to most effectively and efficiently strengthen
preparedness for terrorist attacks, major disasters, and other emergencies.

Diversity Training Modules
The Diversity Division has issued Diversity Training modules for use in
establishing and maintaining an active Diversity program. These modules
include a Powerpoint presentation (245KB), a Recognizing Diversity document,
and a Diversity Quiz (37KB) (with answers (27KB)) that advisors can use.

Many POMS users who have AOL as their Internet Service Provider (ISP) have
reported communications problems in the form of not being able to access
POMS or receive POMS-related e-mails (e.g. - system user notices; replies to
their own e-mails about POMS questions/problems) from the POMS Support Desk.

West Marine Promotion to Support the VSC Program During National Safe
Boating Week
To assist in encouraging boaters to obtain and pass a VSC, West Marine is
offering a free T-shirt for those that meet this requirement. below is a
link to a PDF file which is a general notice sent to all West Marine/Boat US
retail outlets defining the promotion. We are asking our vessel examiners
to support this promotion by providing boaters who pass their VSC with one
of the coupons also in a download link below (coupons will also be available
from each DSO-VE). A mock up of the T-shirt is also provided in a link
below.

Undress and Working Blue Uniform Notes
The following message was recently issued in the Coast Guard. While its
focus is on advising active duty and reserve service members that undress
blue and working blue uniforms will no longer be authorized for wear as of
September 30, 2005, the message also indicates that those uniforms will
continue to be optional for wear by Coast Guard Auxiliarists until otherwise
directed.

National Marina Day 2005 Materials Now Available
2005 National Marina Day Co-Chairs Dale Thomas and Dwight Jones today
announced that the 2005 National Marina Day Resource Kits have been posted
