Coastie Tattoos

COASTIE TATTOOS are now available through your District Staff Officer
Materials (DSO-MA) ordering system using Stock number 81420.  They come in a
package of 100 tattoos. Those Districts participating in the District Stores

ADM Allen's Change of Command 

The new Commandant of the Coast Guard, ADM Thad Allen, is a great proponent
and supporter of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. We were fortunate to have the
Coast Guard ask the Auxiliary to cover ADM Allen’s Change of Command (COC)
on May 25, 2006. Out of 10 Coast Guard personnel covering the imagery (still
and video) of the COC, 7 were Auxiliarists and 3 were active duty. This
event was historic in several respects, not the least of which was it was
the first COC in which the President of the United States was in attendance.
In addition to President Bush, Secretary of Homeland Security Michael
Chertoff and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Marine General Peter Pace
assumed important roles in the COC.

Candidates For National Election

Letters of Intent to run for National office and those eligible to seek the
offices have been filed and are now available for review in a memorandum

USCG Auxiliary Examiner & Dockwalker Augmentation Letter

Coast Guard Headquarters (G-PCV) has issued a policy letter providing
detailed information about qualification and currency requirements for
Auxiliarists performing Commercial Fishing Vessel, Uninspected Passenger
Vessel and Uninspected Tow Vessel examinations. It also provides guidance to
District Uninspected Commercial Vessel Safety and Commercial Fishing Vessel
Safety (CFVS) Coordinators; Officers-In-Charge, Marine Inspection
(OCMI)/Sector Commanders; unit CFVS Examiners, Uninspected Towing Vessel
(UTV), and Uninspected Passenger Vessel (UPV) Examiners; and Coast Guard
Auxiliary members responsible for management of the Commercial Vessel Safety
Program.

National Commodore's Quarterly Report to the Commandant

The quarterly status report to the Commandant, reviews the challenges and
initiatives facing the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. It includes updates on
Incident Command Systems training; the Auxiliary Resource Alignment Study;
the Regional Exams Centers initiative; an educational campaign to help
boaters understand the proper use of Digital Select Calling radios;
involvement with the International Search and Rescue organizations; and a
review the last 100 days and looks forward to the next 100 days.

NOAA Publishes Online Chart Viewer

On July 4, NOAA introduced a new public service called the Online Chart
Viewer. The Viewer lets mariners display [almost] any nautical chart in the
national suite using only an Internet browser. Supported charts are updated
weekly for notice to Mariner corrections by NOAA cartographers. The Viewer's
fast, image displaying software permits rapid raster chart display, panning
and zooming.
